How to Structure a Speech
By admin | September 29, 2005
By Michael.
Michael talked for 15 minutes on how to structure a speech.
He suggested two angles for devising a speech (using Sally’s scissors technique) for structuring a speech; either the Big Picture - where you pick a subject and build in the detail) - or the Little Picture where you choose a detail and build around that. Michael suggested the latter was easier to do.
A speech should contain:
- A beginning to arrest people’s attention.
- the middle bit;
- Keep it simple - no more than three points.
- use written notes - but divide into structured but relaxed paragraphs you can remember
- Finish off nicely - work backwards from the finish (punch line).
His two hand outs have further information; Building a Speech and Use of Notes.
