WSC Meeting - Wednesday 12 October

    By admin | October 17, 2005

Craig (in the chair for the topics section of the evening) needed some help - so invited Wimbledon speakers to talk on the topic of loss, and how to remedy that by finding and, even better, keeping. Never loosing the plot, their dignity or, indeed, socks, keys, or wallets - the topic speakers skilfully kept on topic.

In the second half of the evening Peter entertained with his level 3 (speech construction) on dating - including his four laws of dating. Then David engaged us in his level 6 speech, on Vocabulary and Word Pictures, in which he described in a previous global economy it was workers rather than work that was exported - by cruel force in the case of the slave trade.

Finally, a masterpiece - a level 10 speech - on 'The Birth of Rhetoric'. Using the three elements of rhetoric - Character, Argument and Engaging of Passion - Joseph orated the history of Rhetoric from Plato, the upwardly mobile Athenians, to the Roman rhetoricians.

All three set speeches were passes.

The next meeting is on 26 October. Tim
