• About Wimbledon Speakers Club


    Formed in 1998 Wimbledon has established itself as a leading force both locally and nationally amongst Speakers Clubs.

    Our aim is to help members develop both confidence and skills in a variety of forms of verbal communication and public speaking.

    A typical Programme covers; Improvised Speaking; Prepared Speeches & Evaluation of Speeches. Occasionally there may be other word games, debates or lighter-hearted entertainment included.

    Our meetings are held on the 2nd & 4th Wednesday each month at the William Morris Rooms (see venue) - 7.30pm start.

    We welcome visitors who just want to drop in and see how they can best benefit.

    For our secondto-last meeting of the speaking season the order of events was turned around a little as we began with Orla’s ice-breaker all about her life ‘against the backdrop of world events’. Eileen described how fairy tales teach about communication in non-obvious ways her level 7 speech (on use of notes) and later David (later winner of the Debra), for the same assignment, told us we should begin with the end in mind - in his example, the end.
    Alan attempted the difficult advanced project bringing in his enthusiasm for the London Olympic Games.
    After the break, although it’s hard to believe it’s her first time as topics chair set the club, Walla posed some challenging and meaty topics, forcing everyone to think that we all had the opportunity to get out teeth into…
