• About Wimbledon Speakers Club


    Formed in 1998 Wimbledon has established itself as a leading force both locally and nationally amongst Speakers Clubs.

    Our aim is to help members develop both confidence and skills in a variety of forms of verbal communication and public speaking.

    A typical Programme covers; Improvised Speaking; Prepared Speeches & Evaluation of Speeches. Occasionally there may be other word games, debates or lighter-hearted entertainment included.

    Our meetings are held on the 2nd & 4th Wednesday each month at the William Morris Rooms (see venue) - 7.30pm start.

    We welcome visitors who just want to drop in and see how they can best benefit.

    Wimbledon Speakers is not affiliated with any political or religious organisation. Our membership reflects a complete range of age gender and ability. To get in contact with us, click on Contact page above...

    For our secondto-last meeting of the speaking season the order of events was turned around a little as we began with Orla’s ice-breaker all about her life ‘against the backdrop of world events’. Eileen described how fairy tales teach about communication in non-obvious ways her level 7 speech (on use of notes) and later David (later winner of the Debra), for the same assignment, told us we should begin with the end in mind - in his example, the end.
    Alan attempted the difficult advanced project bringing in his enthusiasm for the London Olympic Games.
    After the break, although it’s hard to believe it’s her first time as topics chair set the club, Walla posed some challenging and meaty topics, forcing everyone to think that we all had the opportunity to get out teeth into…

    We have a winner!

    Michael Ronayne came first in the National Speech Competition, in a field of eight highly experienced and highly competent speakers.

    A superb performance even by Michael's standards.

    Well done Michael and at least there was one Chelsea supporter who was reasonably happy on Saturday evening…

    The Wimbledon Speakers Club meeting of March 28th

    Suzanne chaired O'Brien in her uniquely efficient and persuasive style - setting a variety of entertaining topics for WSC speakers and visitors.

    Four speeches were crammed in after the Interval including ice-breakers by Barbara and Rachel, a level 2 speech by Chrissy and a level 4 - on use of gestures - by Tim Watt.

    Wimbledon's success in competition continues.

    The image [base Our three representatives at the London Area Finals on February 17th each won their respective contest and went on to represent London in the South East District Finals on March 11th in Maidstone.

    Well done to David Langworthy who won the London Area Topics; Katherine Inglis who won the London Area Evaluation contest and especially Michael Ronayne who has now gone on from winning the London Area Speech contest to winning the South Eastern Area contest as well.http://www.tjwmedia.com/WSC/bill-michael.jpg

    This means that following on from Suzanne O'Brien's achievements last year, Wimbledon yet again has a representative in the National Finals.

    No embarassment at the richness of our talents!

    28022007At the 20 February meeting of Wimbledo Speakers Club Barbara offered served up some prime topics material on the paralell subject of dogs and Valentine[base ']s Day, and in the second half Peter reviewed Simply Irresistible by Raj Pasaud and Frank attempted another materpeice.

    The meeting also acknowledged the achievements of David Langworthy - double trophy winner for the ASC London region contest.

    Speaking contest at the 13 December WSC Meeting

    A great contest of a very high standard, with all the old heavy-weights slugging it out together.

    Congrats to Katherine and Suzanne who came second and third respectively.

    Michael came out on top this time and will represent WSC at London Area Finals in February.
